A local leader of Awami League was stabbed to death and at least five others were injured during a clash between two groups of Awami League activists in Natore's Singra upazila.
The deceased was identified as Aftab Uddin, 50, general secretary of the AL in Sukash union parishad’s 1st ward. He was also a former UP member.
The incident took place around 9:30pm at Bamihal Bazar.
Singra Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman confirmed the matter to Banglanews.
He said there has been a long-standing dispute between the local AL factions of Faridul Islam, the current UP member of Sukash union, and Aftab Uddin over establishing supremacy in the area.
Around 9:30pm last night, Aftab along with his men attacked the houses of Faridul Islam at Bamihal Dashopara, leaving one dead and five others injured, he also said.
The injured, including ward no 1 Jubo League general secretary Abul Kalam, are currently undergoing treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, the OC added.
