Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader has said BNP is a big obstacle to the country's security, democracy and law and order.

He said, "The democracy and the legal system of the country will not be safe in the hands of BNP." 

Obaidul Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, was talking to reporters on the sidelines of a prayer ceremony in memory of Sheikh Russell at Banani graveyard on Tuesday (Oct 18) morning.

He also said history will never forgive those involved in the murder of Sheikh Russell, the youngest son of Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, on August 15, 1975.

Sheikh Russel Day is being observed across the country today, marking the 59th birthday of Shaheed Sheikh Russel.

Sheikh Russel, also the youngest brother of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was born at the historic Bangabandhu Bhaban at Dhanmondi in the capital on October 18 in 1964.

He was brutally killed along with most of his family members, including his father Bangabandhu, on August 15, 1975 when he was a student of class four at University Laboratory School.
