Samrat's bail extended till Nov 8

A Dhaka Court today (Oct 20) extended bail of former Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat till November 8 in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on the charge of acquiring wealth beyond known income.

Dhaka Special Judge's Court-6 judge Al Asad Md Asifuzzaman passed the order.

The court also set November 8 as the new date for the next hearing on framing charges, said Samrat's lawyer Afroza Shahanaz Parvin Hira.

The expelled Jubo League leader was present before the court while his lawyer pleaded for his permanent bail, getting back passport and permission to go abroad for better treatment.

The court, however, didn't pass any order regarding getting back passport and permission to go abroad for better treatment.

On August 22, the same court granted ad-interim bail to Samrat considering his health condition.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Samrat along his associate and also former Jubo League leader Enamul Haque alias Arman from a village in Cumilla's Chauddagram upazila on October 6, 2019.

On November 12 in the same year, ACC deputy director Md Jahangir Alam filed a case against him for amassing wealth worth of around Taka 3 crore beyond his known income sources.

The anti-corruption watchdog submitted a chargesheet against him on November 26, 2020, accusing him for amassing wealth worth of over Taka 222.88 crore beyond his known income sources.
