Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hassan Papon has reaffirmed the board's commitment to retaining Tamim Iqbal as the Captain of the team for the upcoming World Cup.
Tamim's recent retirement issue, which was later reversed after a meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, had raised doubts about his captaincy.
During his six-week rest period, speculations circulated that the BCB might consider appointing Shakib Al Hasan as the ODI captain, leading Tamim to announce his premature retirement.
However, President Papon put all speculations to rest during a recent interaction with reporters at a local hotel, stating unequivocally that Tamim would lead the team in the World Cup without any doubt.
The BCB president clarified that Tamim's captaincy was not in jeopardy due to his absence from the last two matches against Afghanistan, during which Liton Das took charge.
However, Tamim's World Cup participation remains uncertain due to a back injury that might require an operation and a recovery period of four to six months. Despite this, the BCB remains resolute in their decision to have him as the captain if he returns in time.
During interviews with the media, Tamim raised concerns about the exercise regimen in the gym, which he believes might have contributed to his back pain. The BCB will likely address this matter and take necessary precautions to ensure the players' well-being.
