Bangladesh fell seven runs short in a tense finish against Sri Lanka in Colombo, despite bowling the hosts out for 202.
Chasing 203, Nigar Sultana’s side were dismissed for 195 for nine in a match that swung repeatedly in the closing overs.
Sri Lanka, sent in, lost Vishmi Gunaratne to the first ball and were further pegged back when captain Chamari Athapaththu departed.
Regular wickets stalled their progress through the middle overs, although late cameos from Udeshika Prabodhani and Malki Madara nudged the total to 202 in 48.4 overs. Harshitha Samarawickrama top-scored with 44.
Bangladesh’s attack was led by Shorna Akter, who claimed three for 27 in 10 overs. Rabeya Khan took two for 39, while Nahida Akter, Nishita Akter Nishi and Marufa Akter collected a wicket apiece as disciplined bowling denied Sri Lanka any sizable partnerships.
The chase faltered early at 24 for two before Sharmin Akhter rebuilt with a measured 64. An injury forced her off, and although captain Nigar Sultana Joty revived the innings with a sparkling 77 off 98 balls alongside Shorna, Bangladesh lost momentum at the death.
A late collapse—wickets tumbling in succession—left the visitors short despite Sharmin’s return. Bangladesh ended on 195 for nine, handing Sri Lanka victory by seven runs after a gripping contest.
