2nd ODI: West Indies beat Bangladesh in Super Over

West Indies created one-day international (ODI) history on Tuesday by bowling a full 50 overs of spin in their second ODI against Bangladesh — the first time ever a team has done so in ODI cricket.

The visitors clinched a dramatic victory in the Super Over after both teams finished with identical scores of 213 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, leveling the three-match series 1-1.

After restricting Bangladesh to 213 for seven, West Indies ended their innings at 213 for nine before scoring 10 runs in the Super Over to secure a one-run win.

The match featured a record 92 overs of spin — the highest in any ODI — surpassing the previous record of 78. Remarkably, all 50 of West Indies’ overs were bowled by spinners after the side dropped pacers Jayden Seales and Romario Shepherd.

Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie led the attack with three wickets for 65 runs, while Alick Athanaze (2-14) and Akeal Hosein (2-41) provided crucial breakthroughs. Roston Chase (0-44) and Khary Pierre (0-43) bowled the remaining overs, as West Indies opted not to use their only pace option, Justin Greaves.

It was the first instance of any team bowling all 50 overs of spin in ODI history, surpassing Sri Lanka’s 44 overs of spin in 1996.

The strategy marked a striking contrast for a side historically renowned for its fearsome fast bowlers. For Bangladesh, Mustafizur Rahman bowled eight overs for 40 runs, while the remaining overs also came from spinners.
