Rangpur Riders started their Global Super League (GSL) campaign with a narrow loss to Hampshire in a nail-biting Super Over on Thursday.
After opting to bat first, Hampshire were bowled out for 132 runs in their allotted 20 overs.
Shan Masood led the charge with a steady 56, while Ali Orr and Tom Prest contributed 28 and 12 runs, respectively.
Rangpur’s Zak Chappell delivered a stellar performance with the ball, claiming 5 wickets for just 23 runs while Harmeet Singh picked up up 2 wickets.
In response, Rangpur began strongly with a solid 46-run opening partnership between Soumya Sarkar and Steven Taylor.
Soumya scored 27, while Taylor added 20. Contributions from Nurul Hasan (24) and Khushdil Shah (25) kept Rangpur in the chase, but the innings lost momentum after the opening stand, leading to a tie and forcing the match into a Super Over.
Batting first in the Super Over, Rangpur managed 12 runs for the loss of one wicket. However, Hampshire chased down the target with one ball to spare, sealing their victory.
Rangpur Riders will look to bounce back in their next game on December 1 against the Australian side Victoria.
