Bangladesh seek rebound against South Africa after twin losses

Bangladesh are set to face South Africa on Monday (Oct 13), with captain Nigar Sultana Joty urging a reset after back-to-back defeats at the ICC Women’s World Cup.

The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 pm Bangladesh time, with the Tigresses targeting a return to winning ways following losses to England and New Zealand.

Bangladesh opened their campaign with a commanding seven-wicket victory over Pakistan in Colombo, bowling the opposition out for 129 before opener Rubya Haider (54*) guided the chase home with 113 balls to spare.

They then fell to England by four wickets in Guwahati and suffered a 100-run defeat to New Zealand. “There is a lot to learn from the New Zealand match. We want to correct our mistakes and start afresh against South Africa,” said Joty.

History favours South Africa: the sides have met 21 times in women’s ODIs, with the Proteas leading 18–3. In their most recent bilateral ODI series, in December 2023, Bangladesh won the opener before South Africa clinched the series 2–1.
