Mushfiqur and Raqibul out of England series

NOTTINGHAM : Bangladesh`s latest defeat was compounded by Mushfiqur Rahim and Raqibul Hasan both suffering series-ending injuries in the first one-day international against England here on Thursday.

Wicketkeeper Mushfiqur, not wearing a helmet, was struck in the face midway at Trent Bridge by a ball from spinner Faisal Hossain and carried off on a stretcher in a match England won by six wickets.

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza said Mushfiqur would be out for a week and that means the keeper wil miss both Saturday`s second ODI in Bristol and Monday`s series finale at Edgbaston.

Earlier Raqibul, who top-scored for Bangladesh with 76 in a six-wicket loss, broke a toe after being struck on the foot by England seamer James Anderson.

Raqibul, who ended up batting with a runner, is out for two weeks, after making his return to international duty in this match having retired in protest at being omitted from the Tigers` World Twenty20 squad.

With the series finishing on Monday, time is short if Bangladesh want to bring in replacements.

"Mushfiqur is still in hospital and he is out for a week," Mortaza said.
"Raqibul is out for two weeks, he has a fracture in his toe."

Bangladesh don`t have a reserve wicketkeeper in their squad and Mortaza added: "We are trying to bring a keep over maybe, and (Mohammad) Ashraful or Naeem (Islam) may be coming over too.

"But we don`t know, we haven`t taken that decision."
