Bangladesh were bowled out for 207 in 49.4 overs in the opening match of the three-match ODI series against West Indies at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday. The total marked Bangladesh’s lowest at home in 11 years for nearly a full 50-over innings.
Sent in on a tricky wicket, Bangladesh suffered an early collapse, slipping to 8 for 2 in just 2.1 overs. Saif Hasan (3) was trapped in front by Romario Shepherd, while Soumya Sarkar (4) pushed a full-length delivery straight to point off Jayden Seales.
Najmul Hossain Shanto (32 off 63) and Towhid Hridoy (51 off 90) steadied the innings with a 71-run partnership for the third wicket. Shanto fell to left-arm spinner Khary Pierre, bringing debutant Mahidul Islam Ankon to the crease. Ankon combined with Hridoy for another 36-run stand before Hridoy was dismissed by Justin Greaves.
Ankon continued with a composed 46, adding 43 runs with captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz (17) late in the innings before both were trapped by off-spinner Roston Chase. Rishad Hossain provided late fireworks with a 13-ball 26, including one four and two sixes, while Tanvir Islam also added a six to take Bangladesh past 200.
Jayden Seales was the most successful bowler with 3 wickets, while Khary Pierre impressed with his economical spell, conceding just 19 runs for 1 wicket at an economy rate of 1.90—the third-best by a foreign spinner on Bangladeshi soil.
Bangladesh will look to bounce back in the second ODI as the series continues.
