Teachers training allowance to be reduced!

DHAKA: With the aim of improving quality education, the government is now giving training allowances to the teachers of the post graduate colleges at the district headquarters.

With this object the detailed expenditure on this head is being reduced in the revised Development of Project Proposal (DPP). So, long the trainees used to get Tk 800.00 per day. The planning commission terms the amount too much.

At present, the training allowance has been fixed at Tk 150 and the daily allowance would be Tk 300.00. The total expenditure now has been fixed at Tk 13.22 crore across the country for the teachers of the district headquarters.

At the proposal of the Ministry of Education the total budget in this sector was earlier fixed at Tk 665.12 crore. The duration was from August 2010 to December 2016.

Next in the revised budget it was enhanced to Tk 816.63 crore.

The revised proposal was considered in a meeting of PEC chaired by Commission member M Abdul Mannan Howlader.

In PEC meeting it was decided to review the budget justifiably in the inter-ministerial meeting.

In the committee there were representatives of Implementation, Monitoring, Evaluation and Development (IMED), General Economic Division (GED) and Education Engineering Department.

From a source of the Planning Commission it was learnt that there was expenditure in the proposed budget in different heads namely, reduction of man power, project maintenance cost, maintenance and repair cost, equipment procurement head, purchasing of scientific apparatus for the colleges, transport purchase, furniture procurement cost, books purchase, computer, hostel construction, land development, boundary wall construction and lift purchasing. This was done unanimously.

Besides, there is recommendations for constructing 74 hostels for both male and female with 100 capacity at the cost Tk 220 crore.

A project source told Banglanews that so far tenders were invited for 8 boys’ hostels and nine girls’ hostels.

The project cost was earlier was fixed following the rate schedule of 2008 now it will be followed at the rate schedule of 2014.

For this enhanced expenditure in the new rate schedule the training allowances are going to be reduced.

Moreover in the approved DPP 70 colleges, 69 examination halls, 10 science buildings, 8 administrative buildings, one Arts building, 4 principa quarters, 6 hostel super quarters, one auditorium, 7 other buildings, boundary walls for 49 women colleges and other many infrastructures will be built.
