CUET closed sine die after BCL clash

CHITTAGONG: The authorities of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) have closed the institution for an indefinite period following a factional clash of ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus.

The decision was taken from an emergency meeting presided over by the CUET vice-chancellor (VC) Monday afternoon.

Sources from the university said the decision was taken fearing further deterioration of the situation.

The authorities also asked the male students to leave halls within 5:00pm Monday and female students within 10:00am of Tuesday.

However, two factions of CUET unit BCL locked into a clash on Saturday. Again, they locked into chase and counter-chase on Sunday noon.

Additional police forces were deployed Sunday noon to keep the situation in the campus under control.

The decision to close the university sine die, however, was taken when the BCL men, once again locked into chase and counter-chase on Monday noon.
