HC issues rule over English Grammar errors

DHAKA: The High Court issued a rule on errors in English Grammar books from the fourth grade to graduate level written by different authors.

The HC bench of Justice FRM Nazmul Ahsan and Justice KM Kamrul Quader issued the rule after hearing of a petition on Monday (July 29).

Helal Uddin Patwari, a former a teacher of English department at Konabari College in Gazipur, filed the writ petition.

Mozammel Haque, accompanied by lawyer Tanvir Ahmed and lawyer Shakib Mabud, moved for the writ petition while Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar stood for the state.

The rule was issued asking to know why English Grammar books, from fourth grade to graduation, written by Chowdhury and Hossain, Babul Chandra Shil, Professor FM Abdul Rab, Saima Prasad Ghosh, Feroz Mukul, Saifur Rahman Khan, should not be declared incorrect and illegal.

Besides, it also wants to know why directives should not be given to stop publications and marketing of those books.

Secretary of Education, Vice-Chancellor of National University, Director General of Bangla Academy, Director General of Secondary and Higher Education,   President of Publishers Association, Chairman of National Text Book Board (NCTB) were made respondents to the rule within four weeks.
