JU suspends 18 students for different terms

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: The authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) have suspended 18 students for different periods over various crimes, including sexual harassment and ragging to fellow students, on the campus.

The suspension decision was made on Aug-3 when the JU syndicate in a meeting approved the suspension order with Vice-Chancellor Prof Farzana Islam in the chair. In another incident, a temporary expulsion order was issued on August 26.

The information was received from the officer orders sent from the university's public relations office on Tuesday (August 27).

According to the office order, Rizwan Rashed Swan, a student of Drama and Dramatics Department, was expelled for one year and fined Tk 10000 and Mahid Hasan, a student of Department of Archaeology, was suspended for six months and fined Tk 5,000 for the crime of assaulting a student in the Battala area of the university and two students in another area. 

Besides, Tojammel Hossain, a student of Mathematics Department, was terminated from the department for sexual harassment and was expelled permanently. On charge of assaulting a fellow student, Ashikur Rahman and Sourav Chakraborty, students of the Fine art department, were suspended for one year and Zakia Sultana Dina and Fahmida Khanam Aditi were suspended for six months.
