Fahad murder: BUET students’ demo continues

DHAKA: Students of BUET (Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology) continued their protest programmes for the fifth consecutive day on Friday (Oct 11) over death of their fellow Abrar Fahad and demanded for justice.

Agitating students of the university brought out a procession from in front of the Shaheed Minar of the university around 11:20 am with placards and chanted different slogans demanding capital punishment of Abrar’s killers.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Saiful Islam is scheduled to meet the protesting students at 5pm over their 10-point demand.

The students agreed to sit with the VC at university auditorium in presence of media, said Mahmudur Rahman Sayem, one of the spokespersons of protesting students  at a press briefing on the campus on Friday.

During the time, the protesters also requested media cannot go on live and ask any questions to the VC during the meeting.

Friday's demonstration include ---sit-in program, drawing of graffiti demanding trial of Fahad’s killers, performing of road play, symbolic program organized by BUET Debating Club after Jumma prayers, meeting with Vice Chancellor at Auditorium.

Abrar Fahad, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of BUET was allegedly beaten to death at his dorm Sher-e-Bangla Hall early Monday (Oct 7).

The body of Fahad was found lying between the first and second floors of Sher Bangla Hall.

Later on that day, police arrested 10 BCL leaders of its Buet unit over the alleged involvement in the killing of fellow student Abrar Fahad.
