5 die of kidney diseases an hour in country

DHAKA: About 2-crore people are suffering from kidney-related diseases in the country and at least five people become victims of premature death per hour due to those diseases.

The shocking data was revealed at a roundtable titled “Kidney Health For All: Mass Awareness Necessary” organized voluntary organization Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) at the city’s National Press Club on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting, speakers said kidney-related diseases are very dangerous and the treatment cost of Kidney-patients is too much expensive. Only five percent people of the country can afford the cost, they added.

Speakers gave eight suggestions to keep your kidneys healthy.

Those are---more physical activities, manage diabetes and high blood pressure, regular medical check-up, eating healthy foods: fresh fruits, fresh or frozen vegetables, whole grains, and low-fat dairy foods, losing weight if you are overweight, limiting your alcohol intake and drinking sufficient water.

Presided over by KAMPS president Dr. MA Samad, senior lawyer Barrister Rafique-Ul Huq, former national cricket team captain Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu, National Institute of Kidney Diseases and Urology director professor Dr. Rafiqul Abedin, Daily Sun acting editor M Jamilur Rahman, and businessman Abdur Razzaq, among others, spoke at the function.
