DHAKA: Health minister Mohammad Nasim on Thursday said the government has a plan to make it compulsory for physicians to serve at villages for three years rather than two years.

He made the disclosure in response to a question of M Abdul Latif, MP, at the Parliament.

The minister said it was partially true that the physicians, who were appointed at villages, come at Health Directorate in a bid to take transfer in Dhaka.

“But the number is little and they try to take transfer due to familial problems,” he added.

In response to another question by Ayesha Ferdaus, MP, the minister informed the House that government was processing to create 19,803 posts of health assistants as there were only 20,877 health assistants in 40,680 wards in the country.

Nasim also informed the parliament that Bangladesh has been exporting medicine after meeting own demands.

“We have exported medicines in 92 countries in 2014,” he added.
