DHAKA: Children Health Desks will be setup in every Thana with cooperation of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to ensure the security of children across the country.

The pilot study of the project is now going on.

UNICEF's Chief of Child Protection Rose-Anne Papavero made the remarks in a discussion titled ‘Dissemination Session of Concluding Observations of CRC Committee on the Fifth Periodic Report on the Rights of the Children Government of Bangladesh’ at Bangabandhu International Conference Center (BICC) of the city on Thursday (February 25).

The program was jointly organized by Women and Children Affair Ministry and UNICEF.

Papavero further said a police officer who will be trained in Police Training Academy will be standby to deal with the children affairs in every thana. However, the process is still underway.

UNICEF country representative Edouard Beigbeder said all people should give priority to the matters of children and government’s monitoring is a crying need to make this project successful.

He urged the audience to take effective steps to face the challenges in giving highest priority to the children considering the changing world and greater success of Bangladesh in last 25 years.

Children and Women ministry secretary Nasima Begum alleged that the media does not highlighted the trail of children harassment rather than the incident.

For instance, the media almost ignored the news about the victim Rajan case trail where the accused was brought back from abroad.

"If the punishments are highlighted in the media, it will warn the criminals and ultimately prevent them from abusing children", she added.
