DHAKA: World renowned cardiologist Dr Devi Shetty arrived in Dhaka Monday (Mar 4) from Bangaluru via Kolkata of India for the treatment of Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.

He reached the BSMMU around 1:30pm where Quader, also General Secretary ruling Awami League, has been undergoing treatment since early Sunday.

Dr Devi Shetty reached Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 1 pm and a team of BSMMU received him at the airport.

BSMMU hospital director Brigadier General Abdullah Al Harun welcomed Dr Shetty at the hospital, BSMMU Proctor professor Syed Mozaffor Ahmed told Banglanews. 

A new medical board will be formed with inclusion of Dr Shetty in the 19-member board previously formed for the treatment of Obaidul Quader, said a reliable source at BSMMU. 

The board will decide about the next course of treatment for Quader. 

Hospital sources said all set for taking Quader to Singapore for better treatment. Air Ambulance is ready. Next steps will be taken after the decision of medical board has come. 

Physical condition of Road Transport & Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader is improving slowly.

“His condition is improving. Output is well and so is the pressure,” said Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital Director Brig Gen Abdullah Al Harun.

“A media briefing will be held on the minister’s health status, around 1pm. But he is doing well,” said Vice Chancellor Dr Kanak Kanti Barua.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader was admitted to the Critical Coronary Unit (CCU) of BSMMU Hospital Sunday (Mar 3) morning after he felt breathing problems and chest pain.

He was diagnosed with blockages coronary arteries.
