Every division to get cancer-kidney hospital

DHAKA: Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek said under the direction of the Prime Minister, a 100-bed cancer and kidney hospital will be set up in every division of the country soon.

The minister on Thursday (May 16) made this remark at a press conference at secretariat on progress of the health and family welfare ministry in the last 100 days.

Meanwhile, Zahid Malek said the process has been started to set up cancer and kidney hospitals in every division.

A large number of patients go to overseas country for the treatment of cancer and kidney diseases. In view of this, initiatives have been taken to set up cancer and kidney hospitals in each division, said the Health Minister.

Further, the number of beds in the Dhaka Medical College (DMCH) Hospital will be increased to 2,600 to 5,000. Besides, the 500-bed Sheikh Hasina Burn and Plastic Surgery Institute will be started in June in full swing.

Pointing out the ‘health service week program’ as the most successful task of the last 100 days, the minister said that only 40 percent of the doctors were present in the hospitals in the past. At present, presence of doctors has increased to 75 percent as a result of the special monitoring cell of the ministry.

With Md Asadul Islam, Secretary of Health Services department, in the chair, the press conference was attended by the State Minister Md. Murad Hassan, director general for health services Prof Abul Kalam Azad and senior officials of the Ministry and the Department.
