Legal notice served to DSCC over wife’s dengue

DHAKA: A Supreme Court lawyer Thursday (July 11) sent a legal notice to the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) asking it to give him Tk 50 lakh as compensation blaming the failure of the authorities for dengue fever of his wife.

Advocate Tanzim Al Islam served the notice through postal services to the mayor and chief executive officer (CEO) of DSCC seeking Tk 50 lakh as compensation in seven days.

According to the legal notice, Sadikun Nahar, wife of the lawyer, was affected by dengue fever on June 29. She underwent treatment at the hospital for five days and her condition is slightly improved.

She is suffering from the fever due to the city corporation's failure to prevent Aedes mosquito in the area where they live in, Advocate Tanzim alleged.

In the notice, the lawyer said it is the responsibility of DSCC to prevent Aedes mosquito menace. As it failed to prevent Aedes mosquito, it will have to take the responsibility of his wife’s illness.

He also requested DSCC to take effective measures to prevent mosquito menace in next three days at Khilgaon ward No. 1 where his family has been living for last three years.

Advocate Tanzim said he will file petition to High court seeking necessary order if the mayor and CEO do not take necessary steps to compensate him and to prevent Aedes mosquito menace.
