500 DMCH doctors’ Eid holidays cancelled

DHAKA: The number of dengue patients is increasing within moments at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Physicians in the Department of Medicine have been treating patients for 24 hours.

Due to the growing number of dengue patients, Eid holidays of about 500 doctors of the department have been cancelled. This time, everyone has to discharge their duty during Eid holidays.

Khan Abul Kalam Azad, chairman of the Department of Medicine at DMCH and Principal of the medical college, said this on Wednesday (July 31).

He said that 120 dengue patients have been admitted to two units in a ward of the Department of Medicine on Saturday (July 27). 115 of them were given release orders after recovery from illness. There are five other patients who will be released soon. There are many units in several wards of the Department of Medicine; the highest number of dengue patients is yet there.

Khan Abul Kalam Azad said that they all had already been informed about the cancellation of the leave by letter.  There are all Physicians of the Department of Medicine, including professors, associate professors and assistant professors. Decision about holidays will be considered if the number of dengue patients declines by August 8.

In reply to a question, the head of the medicine department at DMCH said, “Intern doctors are not under its jurisdiction. They are under the hospital authority.

However, Dr Nasir Uddin, Assistant Director of the DMCH, told Banglanews that the Eid holidays of all intern doctors of the medicine department had been canceled.
