DHAKA: The parliament on Sunday passed the Anti-Corruption Commission (amendment) Bill-2013 in a bid to make it fast and active.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury, who is also In-Charge of the Cabinet Division in parliament, moved the Bill and it was passed in the House over voice-vote.
Matiya Chowdhury placed the bill on February 28 in 2011 and then it was sent to parliamentary committee for vetting.
From now on, ACC will be able to confiscate properties of any accused during the investigation if it feels necessary without permission from the court.
Besides, the ACC lawyers will be able to move the corruption cases through cancellation of their stay orders if they become sincere.
The bill also proposed for incorporating three separate sub-sections in the section 28 of the ACC Act 2004.
According the amendment, crimes relating to corruption would be classified in three categories; cognizable, non-compoundable and non-bailable.
The amendment proposed for safeguarding information providers keeping their names secret as well as punishment for furnishing any false information.
