President lays foundation stone of 500-bed Pabna Medical College Hospital

President Mohammed Shahabuddin today laid the foundation stone of the 500-bed Pabna Medical College Hospital. 

After attending a special doa-mahfil there, the Head of the State asked senior officials of the health department and ministry concerned to start the construction work of the long-cherished hospital in his hometown on an urgent basis.
 
Expressing reaction, President Shahabuddin said, "Today is Eid-e-Miladunnabi, a special day for Muslims . . . It is also the birthday of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the daughter of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu and Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib."
 
He greeted the Prime Minister on her birthday and wished her long life.
 
"Today is an auspicious day for the people of Pabna. I'm very happy to lay the foundation stone of Pabna Medical College Hospital on the occasion of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's birthday," the President said.
 
He added: "A medical college becomes self-sufficient only when it has a modern hospital. By constructing the hospital, the long-standing demand of the inhabitants of Pabna will be fulfilled."
 
Later, President Sahabuddin explained to reporters about the background of construction of Pabna Medical College Hospital.
 
On this occasion, President's son Md Arshad Adnan Rony, Ahmed Firoz Kabir, MP, of Pabna-2 constituency, Pabna Municipal Mayor Sharif Uddin Pradhan, Pabna Medical College Principal Dr Bulbul Hasan and civil, military and local administration officials were present.
 
Earlier, President Sahabuddin paid rich tributes to the great leader by placing a wreath on the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

The President arrived in Pabna yesterday afternoon. He exchanged views with the journalists of Pabna Press Club last night and spent the night at Circuit House.
 
The President is scheduled to return to Dhaka tomorrow.
