The Supreme Court (SC) on Monday (Oct 2) stayed for eight weeks a High Court order that granted bail to Moniruzzaman Monir, an accused in journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim murder case.
Chamber judge of the Appellate Division of the SC Justice M Enayetur Rahim passed the order following a petition filed by the state seeking a stay on the HC order of bail.
According to Assistant Attorney General Md Saiful Alam, Monir cannot be released from jail.
A leave to appeal petition will be moved before the SC full bench against the HC bail order, he added.
Banglanews24.com Jamalpur district correspondent Nadim, 42, died on June 15, a day after he was attacked and injured allegedly by some supporters of a chairman Babu in Bakshiganj.
Later, a case was filed against Mahmudul Alam Babu, chairman of Sadhurpara Union Parishad, and 21 others over their alleged involvement in the killing of Golam Rabbani Nadim.
Nadim's wife Monira Begum filed the case with Bakshiganj Police Station on June 17.
She mentioned the names of 22 individuals and 20-25 others as unknown assailants in the case, Banglanews correspondent reported.
