Badiul Alam Majumdar, secretary of Citizens for Good Governance (SHUJAN’s) brother-in-law Mohammad Ishtiaq Mahmud has been arrested by the police in connection with the attack on the convoy of the former US ambassador Marcia Bernicat.
Mahmud was arrested from Mohammodpur area in the capital on Wednesday (Oct 4).
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) Tejgaon Division of DMP HM Azimul Haque confirmed the matter.
He said Mahmud has been arrested and he will be produced before court today (Thursday, Oct 5).
On September 19, In connection with the attack on the convoy of the former US ambassador Marcia Bernicat case, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DB) submitted a supplementary charge sheet to the court against nine people including Ishtiaq Mahmud.
Apart from Ishtiaq, Mohammadpur Thana Chhatra League President Naimul Hasan alias Russel, Awami League and Chhatra League leaders and activists have been accused in the charge sheet.
on August 4, 2018, the nine accused, along with some 15 to 20 unidentified people, gathered near the Iqbal Road residence of Badiul Alam and chased Bernicat's car.
The report also said that the accused then threw brick chips towards it.
On that day, Ambassador Marcia Bernicat and her security team managed to leave the area unharmed.
On August 10, 2018, following the attack, Shusashoner Jonno Nagorik (Shujan) Secretary Badiul Alam Majumdar filed the case with Mohammadpur Police Station.
However, the accused vandalised the house of the complainant and made death threats to his wife and son, according to the charge sheet.
On March 1, 2022, the court framed charges against the nine -- Firoz Mahmud, Naimul Hasan Rasel, Mir Amzad Hossain Akash, Sazu Islam, Razibul Islam Razu, Shahidul Alam Khan Kajol, Mozahid Azmi Tanna, Siam and Oli Ahmed Jony -- in the case.
