Four killed as bus hits 'Leguna' in Manikganj

Four people were killed and five more people injured after a bus rammed a human hauler, locally known as Leguna, in Manikganj Sadar on Wednesday morning.

The accident took place in Vatbaur area on the Dhaka-Aricha highway around 8:30 am.

Three of the deceased were identified as Laguna driver Zahid, Ayesha Abed Foundation worker Husne Ara, and Manikganj town’s sweet maker Mahadev Madak.

Abdur Rauf Sarkar, officer-in-charge (OC) of Manikganj Sadar police station, confirmed the matter.

According to the police and fire service sources, the Manikganj-bound Leguna stopped at Vatbaur for passengers to get down. At that time, a staff bus coming from behind hit the Leguna, causing the human hauler to fall into the nearby ditch and partially drown.

Three persons died on the spot, and another one died on the way to a nearby hospital, they added.

Members of the police and fire service rescued the Leguna. However, following the accident, vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Aricha highway was suspended for two hours.
