29 Indian fishermen sent to jail

BAGERHAT: Some 29 Indian fishermen were sent to jail on charge of infiltrating the water-body of Bangladesh on Saturday noon.

After detaining the fishermen, police produced them before a Bagerhat court. Later, Rampal-Mongla Magistrate Court sent them to jail.

Assistant Sub-Inspector of Sadar Thana Mahbub confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Second Officer of Mongla Thana Manjur Elahi told banglanews that a patrol boat of Navy on Friday night detained two trawlers from Asirbad and Himalaya which were carrying Indian flags with 29 fishermen near the Hiron Point area of the Bay of Bengal.

Later, the Navy personnel handed the detained fishermen to police, he added.

He also said PO of the Navy Zakir Hossain filed a lawsuit with Mongla Thana against the fishermen.
