Govt to scrutinise data of freedom fighters’ children

The government would is currently collecting data of 90,000 public servants who were recruited under the quota for children of freedom fighters, said Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-E-Azam.

The data would be scrutinized after collection, said the adviser while speaking at a discussion organised by Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad at the Dhaka Reporters Unity on Monday (August 4).

He also said that legal action would be taken against individuals who secured government jobs by falsely claiming to be children of freedom fighters.

“Many people took undue advantage by obtaining fake freedom fighter certificates during previous governments,” he said.

He said: “In particular, numerous non-freedom fighters managed to get such certificates through court orders, even though institutions like the National Freedom Fighters Council (JAMUKA) are in place.”

Faruk-E-Azam added that the interim government plans to approach the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court to obtain a coordinated directive for removing fake freedom fighters from official lists.
