DHAKA: Acting Editor of Daily Amar Desh Mahmudur Rahman has imprisoned himself for last eight months seeking no bail in nine cases.
Mahmudur’s lawyers Sanaullah Mia came up with the assertion on Wednesday while answering to the queries of journalists.
Sanaullah Mia said, “Mahmudur Rahman doesn’t want to get bail because he believes that the court and government will never go in his favor.”
“Mahmudur fears to have further anarchy and not get fair justice in the term of incumbent government,” he added.
On the other hand, Dhaka Mohanagar public prosecutor Abdullah Abu said, “Mahmudur Rahman doesn’t have faith in court.”
He could apply for bail, but intentionally he denied, Abu added.
Mahmudur was previously charged with sedition for publishing Skype conversations between Justice Md Nizamul Huq, chairman of International Crimes Tribunal-1, and Ahmed Ziauddin, an expatriate Bangladeshi legal expert. After that he was charged for eight more cases.
He was arrested from his newspaper office in the capital’s Karwan Bazar on last April 11.
