Bhairab train collision: Death toll rises to 17

At least 17 people were killed and many others injured when a container train and a passenger train collided in Kishoreganj's Bhairab upazila on Monday (October 23) noon.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bhairav ​​Railway Station Alim Sikder confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

Earlier, AKM Aminul Haque, OC of Kishoreganj Railway Police Station said a container train headed towards Chattogram collided with the Dhaka-bound Egarosindhur Express around 3:30pm today.

Rozina Akhter, duty officer of the fire service headquarters, told Banglanews that eight units of the fire service were sent to the spot after receiving information regarding collision between the two trains. 

More units are ready. During the rescue operation, the fire service personnel recovered the bodies, she added.

Stating that the rescue operation is still ongoing, she said that the injured are being taken to hospitals.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members participated in the rescue along with the fire service, she also said.
