National Professor Brigadier (retd) Abdul Malik, founder and president of the National Heart Foundation of Bangladesh, passed away at the age of 94.
He was undergoing treatment at the Heart Foundation, where he breathed his last around 9:40 am on Tuesday (December 5).
National Heart Foundation Assistant Director (Public Relations) Shahzadi Sultana Dolly confirmed the matter.
Malik was suffering from age-related complications, she said.
On information, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed her profound shock at the demise and said Malik was a pioneer in the treatment of heart disease in Bangladesh.
Alongside, he was a successful doctor, a renowned teacher and a dedicated social worker, said the prime minister.
He has been awarded and appreciated in various ways for his philanthropic activities and his enduring impact on the treatment of heart disease in Bangladesh will be remembered forever.
The prime minister seeks eternal peace of the departed soul and extends sympathy to the bereaved family members.
