Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina reached Sylhet to formally launch her party's campaign for the 12th parliamentary election through a grand public rally to be held in the holy city on Wednesday.

A Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG-601 carrying Sheikh Hasina landed at Sylhet's Osmani International Airport around 11:33 am.

Central and local leaders of the Awami League extended a warm welcome to the prime minister upon her arrival.

She will formally launch the election campaign after offering ziarat at the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal (R) and Hazrat Shah Paran (R) as the party traditionally begins its parliamentary election campaign from Sylhet.

Ahead of the visit of Sheikh Hasina, massive enthusiasm and festivity have been prevailing among the people of the entire Sylhet region as the city wore a festive look with illumination and decoration following the electoral code of conduct.

The rally venue Sylhet Government Alia Madrasa ground has been readied as a massive boat-shaped stage was erected.
