DHAKA: The campaigning for the 10th parliamentary polls came to an end from 8:00am Friday, in the run up to the January 5 balloting.
This year the candidates got 19 days for election campaign. The campaign trail began on December 14.
According to the Representation of the People Order (RPO) act 1972, all types of procession, rally and any program won’t be allowed in electoral areas prior to 48-hour of voting. And candidates have to stop their campaigning on that time.
But there were not seen any festivity over election campaign.
Besides, indefinite blockade program, called by BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance, is underway across the country demanding the cancelation of 10th national election.
Polling equipments including ballot papers have already reached electoral area.
According to the Election Commission’s information 12 parties are going to compete in the election.
Awami League will compete in 246 constituencies, Jatiya Party in 85 seats, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) in 24, Jatiya Party (JP) in 28, Ganatantrik Party, Gano Front and Bangladesh Islami Front in one constituency each, Bangladesh Khilafat Majlis in two seats, Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) in 22 while Bangladesh Workers Party in 18 parliamentary seats.
Besides, Independent candidates will fight in 103 constituencies in January 5 parliamentary elections.
