DHAKA: Opposition BNP led 18-party alliance called shutdown in 11 districts of the country for January Sunday, the 10th parliamentary polls day, protesting the voting and the ‘confinement’ of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia at her residence.
Chittagong City BNP President Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury announced the hartal for the polling day in Chittagong, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar districts.
Besides, in Rajshahi, district BNP General Secretary Advocate Kamrul Monir, in a press conference on Friday, called the hartal for Saturday and Sunday in the district, demanding cancellation of the polls.
Moreover, the 18-party alliance called shutdown for Saturday and Sunday in Comilla, Joypurhat, Sirajganj and Patuakhali districts demanding the same.
Apart from this, Bogra District BNP president Saiful Islam called a 48-hour hartal from Saturday 6:00am, in the district protesting the ‘confinement’ of Khaleda Zia.
On the other hand, in Sylhet, convener of district 18-party alliance MA Haque, also president of the city BNP, announced 36-hour hartal in the district from Saturday morning.
