2 killed in Rangpur police firing

RANGPUR: Two people were shot to death in clashes with police while vote-resisters are attacking two vote centers and snatching ballot box in Pirgachha upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased were identified as Hadiuzzaman Hadi, 25, at Mehera vote center and Mirajul Islam Miraj, 25, at Mekura center.

But no reliable source confirmed the matter.

Regarding the matter, Pirgachha thana officer-in-charge Mukul Hossain refused to make any comment. And Jamaat-Shibir leaders also remained silent.

But witnesses said a clash erupted between police and vote resisters while they were trying to snatch ballot box at around 3:00am, leaving Miraj dead on the spot.

Later, locals rushed the body to Rangpur Medical College Hospital.

On the other hand, police protested when some miscreants tried to attack Mekura vote center, leaving one dead on the spot.
