DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina`s ruling Awami League (AL) has already ensured a two-thirds majority in the 10th national elections to retain power.
Out of total 300 constituencies, AL won 105 seats while 127 other candidates of the party were earlier elected unopposed.
When reports last came in, unofficial results of 139 constituencies out of 147 were available.
Returning officers, however, withheld results of the rest of eight constituencies following violence in some 436 polling centers.
Meanwhile, Jatiya Party (JP) won in 13 constituencies, Independent candidates 12, Workers Party (WP) four and Jatiya Samajtanrtik Dal (JSD) won three seats.
Besides, Bangladesh Tariqat Federation and Bangladesh Nationalist Front (BNF) won one seat each.
Voting for the 10th parliamentary elections began at 8:00am and continued till 4:00pm without a break on Sunday.
A total of 386 candidates were in the fray for 147constituencies in 59 districts.
In the run-up to the highly contentious polls, 153 candidates were elected unopposed. Of those, 127 were elected from Awami League, 20 from Jatiya Party, three from Jatiya Samajtantrik Party (JSD), two from Workers Party and one from Jatiya Party (JP).
Voting was held amid a boycott by the BNP-led 18-party opposition alliance demanding elections under a caretaker government but Sheikh Hasina just refused to give in.
After advising the ruling and opposition alliance to resolve their differences in vain, Commonwealth nations, US, the EU and Russia refused to send election observers.
