DHAKA: A 48-hour nonstop hartal, called by BNP-led 18-party alliance, across the country is underway Monday alongside the indefinite blockade programme demanding the cancellation of the 10th parliamentary polls.
BNP leaders-activists, in support of hartal started at 6:00am, brought out of broom procession, put barricade on roads at various spots of Savar, on outskirts of the Dhaka city in the morning.
Besides, leaders-activists of Juba Dal, the youth unit of BNP, burnt effigy of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed.
Earlier on Sunday evening, Dr Osman Faruk, Adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, made the hartal announcement in a press conference at Gulshan in the city.
The spokesperson for the party told the journalists: “The people of the country rejected the farcical elections. They have sent the government to cold storage.”
