Mother-daughter killed in Bandarban fire

BANDARBAN: A woman along with her baby girl was burnt to death and six others sustained injuries as a fire broke out in Bandarban Tuesday afternoon.

The victims were identified as Aklima Akter Lucky, 28, wife of a Detective Branch (DB) officer Nurul Islam and their only three-year old daughter Rekha.

Local sources told banglanews that the fire originated at Aklima’s residence from an electric short-circuit around 4:30pm, leaving Aklima and her daughter burnt dead on the spot.

However, six more houses were burnt as the fire spread quickly. Six people were also injured while carrying out rescue and firefighting operations.

On information, Army personnel and fire fighters rushed to the spot and doused ablaze after an hour-long effort.

Officer-in-Charge of Bandarban Sadar Thana Imtiaz Ahmed confirmed the matter to banglanews.
