MP Azim murder: Flesh found in tank is of human male Anwarul Azim Anar

The state CID received a primary forensic report that confirmed that body parts recovered from the septic tank of a Rajarhat complex last month and the bones recovered near Bagjola Canal in Bhangar on Sunday morning are those of humans and are male.

Akhilesh Chaturvedi, IG CID, told TOI on Monday that they will now take approval from court for DNA profiling to ascertain whether the flesh and bones belong to Anwarul Azim Anar, the Bangladeshi MP who was murdered in Kolkata on May 13.

Once the permission comes through, the agency will again seek the court's nod to ask a family member of the late MP to come to Kolkata for giving their DNA sample.

"This will require diplomatic permission. We are expecting Anar's daughter, Mumtarin Ferdoush Dorin, to come to India for the last round of DNA matching. The entire sequence of DNA matching may take some more time," a CID officer said.

The CID said it will next concentrate on recovering the instruments or weapons used to commit the crime.

"It was Siam Hossain who procured the items from New Market and we may take him there soon. We are searching for an electrical chopper that was used to dispose of the body," an investigator said. Dhaka police detained a politician from Jhenaidah - represented by late Anar - in connection with the murder. They said the detained suspect was sent a photograph of the MP's body from Kolkata hours after the murder.

Sources said Anar and Aktaruzzaman Shaheen, mastermind of the murder, became friends in their youth and, later, both got into politics.

Their mentor was a gold trader in Jhenaidah town, who passed away in 2013. After his death, the friends emerged as major controllers of politics around the Jhenaidah border, eventually having a fallout, the sources said.
