The Customs authorities have seized 38 gold bars worth TK4.5 crore from a flight of Salam Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka.
Flight OV-497 from Muscat, Oman landed around 5:30 am on Wednesday (July 3).
Customs officials said that based on secret information indicating illegal gold was coming to Shahjalal International Airport, the airport's security system had been beefed up.
At that time, two heavy objects wrapped in black scotch tape were found abandoned in the luggage cabin above Seat No. 2 (D-E-F), they said.
Later, 38 gold bars were seized from there. The estimated market value of the gold is Tk4.5 crore. No one was immediately arrested in the incident, they added.
