Jamaat leader killed in Jhenaidah

JHENAIDAH: A leader of Jamaat-e-Islami was killed in a clash with joint forces at Naodapara village under Kotchandpur upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Enamul Haque Biswas, 55, finance secretary of Kotchandpur upazila unit Jamaat.

Kotchandpur thana officer-in-charge M Shahjahan told banglanews that acting on tip off that some criminals are staying near Naodapara school, law enforcers raided the area at around 2:00am.

Sensing the presence of joint forces, criminals opened fire on them. In retaliation, police also fired back that triggered a clash.

In the meantime, Enamul caught in the line of fire and died on the spot.

Kotchandpur sub-inspectors Mukter Hossain, Mizanur Rahman and police constable Joydeb Chowdhury were injured during the clash.

They were given to first aid, the OC added.

The body was sent to Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

Enamul was accused in several cases. A case was filed with Kotchandpur thana in the connection.
