Dr Anisuzzaman gets Padma Bhushan award

DHAKA: Dr Anisuzzaman, Professor Emeritus at the University of Dhaka, has been nominated for Padma Bhushan award this year, the third highest civilian award in India.

Among the 25 people who got the nomination, two other foreigners are US professors Lloyd I. Rudolph and Susanne H. Rudolph, according to Indian media.

Dr Anisuzzamn is only Bangladeshi among the 127 selected for this year`s Padma Shri, Padma Vibushan and Padma Bhushan.

Earlier, Dr Anisuzzamn received the Bangla Academy Award, the Ananda Purashkar for his work in the field of Bengali literature,
Ekushe Padak, an award given by the State, for his contribution to education, Honorary D.Lit, Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta, Sarojini Basu Medal, University of Calcutta, The Pandit Iswarchandra Vidyasagar Gold Plaque, Asiatic Society of Kolkata.

Besides, cricketer Yuvraj Singh was among the seven sportspersons selected for this year`s Padma Shri award, the fourth highest civilian award. Cine stars Paresh Rawal and Vidya Balan, sand artists Sudarsan Pattnaik and theatre artist Bansi Kaul are among the 101 selected for this year`s Padma Shri.
