PM inaugurates national immunization day

FROM GONO BHABAN: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday inaugurated the immunization campaign to protect children of the country from the deadly Measles and Rubella and the 21st national immunization day.

The campaign will continue till February 13.

Inaugurating the campaign at the Gono Bhaban at 9:22am, Sheikh Hasina urged all to come forward to supplements the government`s initiatives of making Bangladesh a measles and rubella free country.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim gave opening speech of the programme.

The Premier before her speech took a child, Sanjida Hasnat, on her lap.

She said, “We want every children to be healthy and this is why we have put special emphasis on health sector.”

Prime Minister also said: “We did not know much about rubella but a little care can help our children to get of the disease.”

The Premier also asked concerned persons to observe the situation so that no child, especially poor children, be excluded of it.

She also voiced about the steps of her government taken in the health sector.

During the whole programme, characters from ‘Sisimpur’, the Bangladeshi version of the children`s television series Sesame Street, wandered around the children to make them joyous.

Health affairs secretary MM Niaz Uddin and Director General of Health Services, Professor Dr Khandaker Shefayet Ullah, among others, were present on the occasion.
