Customs intelligence recovered 105 gold bars and arrested a person for his involvement in this incident on Wednesday at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet.

A passenger identified as Hossain Ahmed, 20, of Sylhet's Gowainghat, was held for his alleged involvement in gold smuggling through Osmani International Airport on Biman Bangladesh Flight No-BG252 from Sharjah to Sylhet around 8 am.

When his baggage was searched, gold bars and silver-plated gold discs were found hidden inside the coffee machine he brought with him.

A total of 105 gold bars weighing 12,180 grams and 4 gold discs weighing 3,730 grams were recovered. The total weight of the recovered gold is 15 kg 910 grams, according to a press release. 

The estimated market value of the seized gold is approximately Tk163 million, it added.
