Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) today (Sep 13) arrested a smuggler along with 11 gold bars from Satkhira’s at Bhomra Lakshidari border area.
The arrestee was identified as Zakir Hossain, 31, son of Arijul Molla of Lakshidari village in Bhomra union.
BGB-33 captain Ashraful Haque said, acting on tip-off, a team conducted a drive in the area on Thursday night and arrested Zakir along with 11 gold bars while he was trying to smuggle those into India.
He said that 11 pieces of gold bars were recovered wrapped in a towel around the arrested man's waist, weighing around 1.5 kg.
The estimated market value of this gold is Tk1,60,70,528.
A case has been filed at Satkhira Sadar Police Station and the process of depositing the gold bars at the Treasury Office is under process, added the BGB official.
