Debapriya Bhattacharya, the head of the White Paper Formulation Committee, said today (Sept 17) that government officials are often unable to provide accurate information due to political pressure.

Speaking to the press in the capital, the economist expressed concern that many officials are forced to carry out tasks under pressure, limiting their ability to present truthful data.

He said that those who previously withheld accurate information out of fear or pressure should now take the opportunity to provide correct details.

Estimates of GDP, national income, inflation, and the ADP rest on fragile foundations, he said adding, "We will thoroughly investigate the root causes of this issue and engage in focused discussions with the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) to address these concerns."

He further added, "We will meticulously review the original contracts of all agreements, including those related to energy, to ensure thorough scrutiny and enhance accountability."
