At least 12 people, including Faruk Hasan, vice-president and spokesperson of Gono Odhikar Parishad, were injured when a passenger bus overturned in Dinajpur on Sunday morning (Aug 24).
The accident occurred in the Ambari area when a Dhaka-bound bus operated by Heritage Paribahan lost control and veered off the road, flipping into a roadside field.
According to local sources, the vehicle had been travelling towards Dinajpur from the capital when the driver lost command of the steering wheel, causing the crash.
Eyewitnesses said that the driver appeared drowsy behind the wheel before losing control. Passengers sustained injuries as the bus toppled into the field, prompting local residents to rush to the scene to assist in the rescue effort. The injured were transported to Dinajpur Medical College Hospital for treatment.
Dr Prashanta Kumar Roy, a physician on duty at the hospital, confirmed that four patients had already received medical attention, while others were being treated.
The identities of the remaining injured passengers have not yet been confirmed.
