Bangladeshi fisherman shot dead by Myanmar Navy

A Bangladeshi fisherman was killed and three others injured as members of Myanmar Navy opened fire on them in the River Naf in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar on Thursday.

The victim was identified as Md Osman, son of Bacchu Miah from Konarpara area of Shapuree Island.

Apart from this, four trawlers with 60 crewmen were taken to Myanmar, later they were reported to have been released.

The incident took place in a trawler owned by residents of Shahpari Island in Teknaf, Cox's Bazar on Wednesday (October 9) afternoon. 

Meanwhile, the owners also accused the Myanmar Navy for this incident.

In this regard, BGB Teknaf 2 battalion commander Lt. Col. Mohiuddin Ahmed advised to talk with the Coast Guard.

Teknaf upazila executive officer (UNO) Adnan Chowdhury said that the matter is heard in different ways. Efforts are being made to collect detailed information in this regard.

An officer in charge of Shahpari Island of the Coast Guard (on condition of anonymity) confirmed the matter. 

He said, one person was shot dead and three others sustained. 

“Waiting for the trawler to arrive at the wharf, it will be known after arriving, he added.
