A high-speed private car overturned after losing control on the Dhaka-Mawa Expressway early Thursday (Aug 21), leaving three people dead and another critically injured, according to local fire service officials.
The accident occurred at approximately 6 am in the Shologhor area of Srinagar upazila, near a passenger shed on the Dhaka-bound lane of the expressway.
Dewan Azad, Station Officer of the Srinagar Fire Service, confirmed the fatalities.
He said, "Two of the passengers died at the scene. The remaining two were rescued in critical condition and transported to the Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, where emergency doctors declared one of them dead upon arrival. The fourth individual remains hospitalised with life-threatening injuries."
Initial reports suggest the vehicle, heading towards Dhaka from Mawa, overturned due to excessive speed.
Traffic on the expressway was severely disrupted for nearly an hour following the incident.
Highway police, alongside fire service personnel, launched a rescue operation and were able to restore normal traffic flow shortly thereafter.
Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or injured, pending further investigation.
